Falling in Love Folio - CCDT - 1320

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my next project for Couture Creations using the
'My Secret Love' Collection.

I created a photo folio with a pop-up page.

I was working on a 'Paper Piecing' technique - where you place your photos where you want them then fill in all the remaining areas with tiny cut strips of patterned paper in any arrangement you like, leaving a small margin between each piece.  I just couldn't help myself, I had to add a pop-up element as well.

I hope it inspires you to give it a go.

'Falling In Love - Folio' Project

Removing the heart lock and lifting up the top flap

Folding down the front acetate flap and showing a heart matt in the oval insertion point

Folding down the Oval page to reveal 2 pages ready for more photos

Opening the top page to reveal 2 more pages for photos.  I left these pages free so any size photos can go where ever you want to place them.

Once these 2 pages open out you see the photo layout with each measurement.  Once you place your photos down, you begin the process of 'Paper Piecing' - which is just trimming down paper pieces of different sizes and different papers to create a display.

Opening the bottom flap exposes you to a pop-up with side slots.  I have only partially die-cut a small butterfly on the matt on the slot at the top right, just to show you that you could incorporate an accompanying element to tie in your theme.

This is the A4 template I used for the mat sizes - I copied this twice for the layout.

These are the components that I used to create the heart lock - 2 die-cut heart frames (I used the 2 larger frames together from the Negative Hearts frames to get the outline hearts) I embossed the sentiment on acetate with white embossing powder then cut the acetate just a bit smaller than the heart shape, then glued it between the 2 heart frames.  I put glue on the leaf die-cut only where it touched the frame, not onto the acetate as I didn't want any glue showing through from the other side.

A closer look at the heart - with the heat embossed sentiment, gemstones and glitter card leaf.  I did put some glitter pen over the embossed inner heart, but it doesn't show up in the photo.

I used 6 sheets of A4 Ivory card for the pages.  The pages were:-
A = Top flap - 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" - this included 2 x 1/2" folds
B = Top Left page - 11" x 8 1/4" - this included a 1/8" fold on the bottom right half (I thought about it later and I probably would have added a hinge instead of the 1/8" fold as I think that would have been stronger)
C = Top Right page - 11 5/8" x 8" this included a 1/2" and a 1/8" fold on the left side
D = Bottom Pop-up page - 11 1/8" x 8 1/4" - this included a 1/8" fold down the centre and 2 x 1/8" fold on the top left half
E = Front Bottom Flap - 2 pieces 5 1/2" x 7" this included a 1/4" then 1/2" fold at the bottom.
On each of the hinged folds I cut an angled corner so the joins looked better once glued.
This was my pop-up template.  It measured 9" x 5 3/8".  The outside frame was 1/2", the pages were 1" from that frame and from the centre fold.  You can see where I made the cuts and the folds from the top picture.
The pop-up cut and folded

This is a look at all the folded parts

I folded the pop-up then positioned it so it was centred and was contained within the page when it was closed.

To get a perfect alignment of the slots, put both paper pieces together in opposite directions and die-cut them together.  I die-cut 4 slots from the glitter card and glued them over the paper pieces slots.

To make it easy to glue the patterned paper, I glued down half of the Pop-up - added the paper pieces.  I added glue only to the frame part,then folded the pages together to get a perfect placement of the pop-up. I then glued the other half of the paper pieces to that side.

A better view of the pop-up with all the paper pieces in place

To create an insertion point, I used my craft knife and cut around the flowers.  I then slipped a piece of scrap paper between this cut and traced around the cut line.  I used this guide to cut the same shape with a small margin from the Precious and Cantalaupe cardstock.

I inked the edges of both of these cardstocks with Salmon ink. I glued the Precious behind the flowers and the Cantalaupe onto the back cut - this creates a pocket for a photo.  I added glitter pen to the centres of the flowers and around the edge of the precious cut.

'LOVE' Layout with Peaceful Peonies Collection CCDT - 1220

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my next project using the pretty Peaceful Peonies Collection
.

The more layouts I do the more I like them.  This one I wanted to add 'Hearts' and try a few techniques that were new to me like background stamping, background stencil work, multiple matting layers, and working with vellum and acetate.  So here goes, hope you like it too.

1.  I started by adding a backing sheet of cardstock to the main page just to give it a bit more support.

2.  Next I trimmed 13cm from the top of sheet 01A and 4mm from the other 3 sides - this creates a border of the Silver  Star cardstock.  Glue the papers in place, then apply a coat of clear Gesso over both - allow to dry.

3.  Inspired by Shobi's tip of being able to use the transparent Yupo paper to create a stencil, I went to work to see if I could.  I had to use my ScanNCut machine to create this stencil.  I first die cut these 2 dies out of black card to get a better scanning image, scanned them in and then using the program I removed the outer lines - this allowed the die cut to stay in the Yupo paper.  I played around a bit with the flowers so they looked layered - more to learn here for me on another day.

4.  I used texture paste for the Lattice stencil.   .

5.  Using my new stencils and paste I applied background images over my layout allow to dry

6.  Next I did some random background stamping with the Cursive Mini stamp and the 2 inks - Dark Grey and Silver.

7.  Now to create the elements.  I inked the Spotted Butterfly mini stamp with the Silver pigment ink, stamped it onto the Acetate, sprinkled clear embossing powder over stamped image, set it with the heat gun then fussy cut image.

8.  Similiar process as previous step but used the stamp and die leaf from the Peony & Leafy Branch Stamp & Die set, vellum, stamped with and heat set image with white embossing powder - I made 5 of these.

9.  I die-cut 5 small hearts from the Hearts Nesting die set out of  the Cherry-Cola and Snow White cardstock then embossed  3 in the embossing folder.  I smudged some Silver and Coral pigment ink over these cutouts.  I die-cut the Love Delightful Sentiment out of Silver Glitter card.  Fussy cut around lace trim on sheet 09A and flowers from sheet 06A.  I inked the edges of the flowers with Silver and Coral pigment ink.

10.  To create a heart frame I positioned the 2 dies like this and taped them together before die-cutting them out of the Silver Glitter card

11. Heart frame cut out, keep the smaller heart for another project.

12.  Next I cut the 9 mats and backed cardboard behind the 4 sizes as shown.   (My first figure is the width measurement, the second is the length)   A = Black & White Photo measures 3" x 4".  B = Woodgrain pattern from sheet 09A - 2 1/2" x 4".  C = Silver Cardstock - 3 1/4" x 4 1/2".  D 1&2= Lace pattern from bottom of sheet 09A -  D1 - 1 1/2" x 2", D2 - 2 1/2" x  whatever is left, E = Woodgrain pattern from sheet 09A - 1 1/2" x 2", F = Pink Dot pattern from sheet 01B - 1" x 7",  G 1&2  = Green Leaf pattern from sheet 06B - G1 = 3/4" x 3", G2 = 3" x 3/4",  H = Pink Dot pattern from sheet 01B - 3" x 4".

13.  The photo edge can be sanded off with a sander or sandpaper.  The other edges are distressed and inked with the 3 inks randomly around the edges.

14.  Glue all the mats together - just play around with offsetting them to create different lines and colours.  Drape the silver heart frame over this arrangement.

15.  It's all about putting it all together now.  I used glue to attach almost everything.  I added either cardboard or double-sided foam squares to the back of elements if I wanted more height.  This is the Love and Hearts area.

16.  The acetate butterfly arrangement.  Behind the butterfly I felt I put too much coral ink  on so I sprinkled some glitter over it and it seemed to look like it was meant to be there instead of a cover-up of a mistake.

17.  A close up of the background stenciling and stamping, squggles from black fineliner,  bow, fussy-cut and die-cut flowers with pearls.  The  Layered Trilliums were cut from Snow white cardstock, hit with a spray of glimmer mist, splash of coral paint in the centre area and topped with a pearl centre,  I softly bent the petals  before gluing them in place
18.  A Closer look at the pearls and muslin placement.

February 2020 'One Sheet Wonder' Challenge

These are my projects for the Couture Creations February 2020 'One Sheet Wonder' Challenge

I made 6 cards using one sheet from the 'Peaceful Peonies' as the base.  I tried to use the same elements on all cards  - it's amazing how many variations you can do - good fun.

This was the cuts I used from the one sheet to do my cards.

'SPECIAL SOMEONE' LAYOUT - CCDT 1120

'SPECIAL SOMEONE' LAYOUT

My finished 'Special Someone' Layout

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my next project.  Working with the lovely 'Peaceful Peonies' Collection from Couture Creations.  When I saw the sentiment stamp that had the words 'Special Someone' I just knew I had to use it.  The photo is of my new little grand-daughter, one week old.  The photo was taken by Jessica Wright.  So here goes..

1.  I started by adding a backing sheet to the design paper to give it more support.
2.   Used an old flower die from  Couture Creations'  Secret Treasures Collection to make some flowers.  I used watercolour pad 300 gsm paper as it looked like the 'mulberry paper' that is used in a lot of flowers.  I cut 3 sets out.
3.  I coloured the centres of the flowers with Beige and the petals with Coral pigment inks, both sides.

4.  I then sprayed the flowers with water, folded the petals over onto themselves,  twisted them, then gently unfolded the petals back open then allowed them to dry.
5.  Fussy cut all the flowers from sheet 03A

6.  Prepare all the other elements - Die-cut all, tie a 3-looped bow and back the matting pieces with cardboard.  The Mat sizes (from top down) are 10cm x 8 cm, 7cm x 6cm, 6cm x 3.5cm, 6cm x 3.5cm and photo is 7cm x 10cm.

7.  I Stamped the Cursive writing stamp with silver pigment ink onto acetate, sprinkled clear embossing powder over that then set it with a heat gun.  Once it was dry I loosely cut around the outside of the heart shaped die so I had some meat to glue to the bigger frame.

8.  I glued the embossed acetate piece to the underside of the large heart frame.  Glue and layer all the matting pieces, drape the two heart frames around the photo.

9.  Assemble and glue all these pieces in place.

10.  Tuck and glue all these pieces around the bottom left of page.

11.  I masked off the top wording of the sentiment stamp before I inked it with clear ink, onto the vellum.  I then sprinkled white embossing powder over that, then set them with the heat gun.  Tuck and glue pieces in place as shown.

12.  The finished Layout
