January 2020 Layout Challenge

JANUARY 2020 LAYOUT CHALLENGE

Hello All,

It is my turn to issue the January Challenge. I thought I had better let you all know what I was thinking so you can start collecting your thoughts about it if you want to be part of it.

As January marks the 1st month of a new year and new resolutions, I thought you could incorporate that theme of 'New Beginnings'. Make a layout or card of your liking using any Couture Creations products with this theme in mind. As an idea, some of the things that could be new to you are:- New baby, you, job or career path, car, holiday, technique, activity, love, pet, bucket list. Whatever is NEW to YOU.

This chalIenge is open from Sunday January 19th 2020. I know this is a busy time for most of us but see what you can do. I hope you enjoy this one as it has no boundaries.
Cheers Kaylee

This is my layout.  This is my first grandchild, Olivia, and her first Christmas - fits nicely with the theme of 'New Beginnings'.

Road Trip Adventure Easel Card CCDT - 0619

My finished 'Road Trip Adventure' Easel/Shaker Card
Card Size - 10.5 cm x 14.8 cm  (1/4 of an A4 sheet)

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my next project for Couture Creations using the wonderful Sunburnt Country Collection.

This project is an easel card with a difference - I added a shaker to the front panel.

1.  I started die-cutting with the nesting dies.   I numbered the dies as 1 from the centre then outwards.

To create the frame for the shaker, I taped number 4 and 5 dies together and cut 2 out of the foam sheet and one from the red cardstock.  (The inner waste cut from the red cardstock is used as a label for the inside of the card).

I then used die 5 to cut the acetate and from sheet 11A as shown.

Die 6 was used for sheet 8A and red cardstock.  I cut the red cardstock in half lengthwise to create a mat for the pattern paper sheet.

2.  Prepare all the elements with this die set.  The 'Road Trip' stamp is embossed with white embossing powder.  I stamped the 'Adventure' stamp onto the Acetate but later changed it to white embossing  powder as well.

3.  Die-cut white card with number 7 die to create a card front panel.  For the Easel base, trim the white card to 14.5cm x 21cm, divide by half, score and fold.   Keep it folded and place the die so it overlaps the fold.  Once it is die-cut, divide one side by half,  score and fold.   Apply double-sided tape and glue to the lower part of the double-folded side front only.  Place the front panel onto this section.

4.  Using a water brush I coloured the glass beads with a bit of red ink and water to go into the shaker.

5.  I die-cut the remaining pieces and inked their edges with brown ink. Then fussy cut another flower image from the patterned paper and decoupaged it on top of the flower on the panel.  Place cardboard between the panels before adhering them.  Glue the shaker pieces together.   In the shaker I added beads, sequins and die-cut kangaroos.

6.  All the pieces just need to be glued in place as shown to finish.

AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA CARD -CCDT 0519

My finished 'Australian Kookaburra' Card

Card Size - 10.5 cm x 14.8 cm  (1/4 of and A4 Sheet)

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for joining me with today's project using Couture Creations' SUNBURNT COUNTRY COLLECTION.  Hope you can find something in it that you might like to try for yourself.

1. I started by cutting a piece 14.3 cm x 9.8cm of  ULT200002 Delicate Medlar cardstock and embossed it with the CO727268 Kangaroos Emboss Folder.

Starting from the bottom upwards, the 'sandwich' I used was:-  base plate, embossing mat, embossing folder with cardstock inserted in it, lastly the top plate.

2.  Next I stamped the CO727200 Kookaburra Postage Stamp onto ULT200002 Delicate Medlar cardstock and coloured it with a water-brush.

From the Card Deco Essentials Ink Dyes, I used the colours  -
  CDEIPU033 Pale Brown
  CDEIPU032 Cappuccino,
  CDEIPU024 Olive Green
  CDEIPU018 Light Blue, and
  CDEIPU019 Deep Sea Blue

3.  Prep all of the elements -
Die-cut the pieces and ink their edges, rip the  patterned paper to fit across card, trim the blue and glitter card for matting and distress their edges, cut a piece of seam binding and tie a knot at each end and lastly fussy-cut around the postage stamp.

The elements I used were:-
CO727233 Mini Die- Fenced In ,   CO727214 -Australia                    Mini Cutting Die,
CO727221 - Eucalyptus Branch Mini Cutting Die,
  CO727200 Kookaburra Postage Stamp ,
  ULT200017 Cardstock - Blue Diamond ,
  ULT200002 Cardstock - Delicate Medlar ,
  CO727174 Glitter Card - Lagoon Blue ,

Sheet 11B from 6.5" x 6.5" Sunburnt Country PaperPad

4.  For the bigger matting pieces I adhere them to cardboard - it makes them firmer.

5.  Play with the arrangement of the elements until it feels right for you, then glue them into place.

6.  The finished product with all elements attached.

This card is a Top-fold measuring 15cm x 10.5cm. The mats all have a 2mm border difference from the one they sit on.

I put a some glossy accents over the feathers of the Kookaburra and some glitter paint on some of the leaves.

G'Day Mate Protea & Dragonfly Card CCDT - 0919

My finished ' G'Day Mate, Protea & Dragonfly card

Card Size - 10.5 cm x 14.8 cm  (1/4 of an A4 Sheet)

Hello Everyone and welcome to my next project.  You can make a vast variety of cards with the Sunburnt Country Collection from Couture Creations.  This one I tried a few different techniques as well just because I wanted to see how it would look, like working with vellum, clear embossing and jaggered edge mats.

1.  I started by embossing the G'Day Mate, Dragonfly and Proteas.  On the vellum I used the platinum embossing powder to make 1 sentiment, 4 proteas and one dragonfly.  The other 3 proteas were stamped with Cappuccino ink onto Delicate Medlar cardstock.  I turned the dragonfly image over and placed it on a foam pad then gently moved a stylus all over to create a 3D effect.

The dragonfly was embossed with clear embossing powder when I was embossing the other elements, this photo shows it a bit better.

2.  Using the water brush, I coloured all the flowers with the green and pink inks.  The Pearlescent inks were used on the tips of the petals and along the centre of the leaves as highlights.

3.  Fussy cut all the flowers and dragonfly.  I didn't colour the dragonfly,

A close up of the vellum dragonfly.

4.  All the elements are all prepared ready for assembly.   Stamped, coloured, die-cut, inked and embossed.

5.  The wood-grain paper was an off-cut from another project, so I cut around the outside to try to re-create a used timber plank effect.  The edges were inked heavily with the Pale Brown ink to give it a burnt aged look.  The green cardstock was trimmed to size,  embossed with the Gumnuts embossing folder, edges distressed and inked with Pale Brown ink.  Adhere all these papers to cardboard then tie a string bow around the whole lot.  This then was attached to the white card front with double-sided tape.

This view shows the build up of many layers.  I used double-sided foam tape under each layer.
